My current research includes Web citation analysis and online scholarly impact assessment using Web-based quantitative and qualitative research methods. I have proposed and tested Web citation extraction methods (Web/URL citations) to capture and assess online formal and informal impact indictors from different types of web documents (especially Open Access journals).  The underlying goal of my study is to assess whether the Web is a useful environment for impact assessment and scholarly communication research and to compare the results with traditional indicators such as ISI citations. For this purpose, I have used Google, Google Scholar, Google Books citations as well as automatic analyses of online syllabuses (education / teaching impact) and PowerPoint presentation files as source of evidence for research impact. I assessed correlations between conventional citations (ISI/Scopus) with above online indicators, finding that Web citations can be used as additional source for impact assessment of academic publications, especially in social sciences and humanities.
